Summary and Purpose of Position

The key purpose of the Account Director is nurture and grow existing clients based on our Aspiration. The Account Director is the “CEO” of an account, with overall accountability its success.

Duties and Responsibilities
(include, but are not limited to):

Client Leadership

  • Work directly with clients to understand their needs, provide consultative guidance, and help the delivery team provide outstanding solutions
  • Lead and manage internal and external partners to deliver effective solutions to meet client objectives and maintain or exceed Audience quality standards
  • Lead key account proposal development and client presentations
  • Oversee the administration of timely invoicing and project reconciliation
  • Produce accurate timesheets, sales forecasts and expense reports, as required
  • Contribute to larger business goals such as market share, reputation, and development of Audience service offerings

 Team Leadership

  • Directly manage an account team as required, e.g., Account Managers, Account Executives, and Account Coordinators (these roles could be co-located in one office or across the Audience network)
  • Coach and mentor the account team, and other functions as relevant, providing constructive and timely feedback on a regular basis, to advance team performance
  • Act as the “internal client” for the delivery teams, helping them understand and speak the language of the client
  • Be open and receptive to feedback, fostering a culture of respect, continuous improvement, and innovation
  • Demonstrate leadership for all team members by setting a positive example, and sharing knowledge and expertise
  • Ensure that the team consistently delivers superior work, is working collaboratively and is kept informed on project and account status
  • Maintain a high level of integrity, business ethics, and sound judgment in the performance of all duties

Financial Management

  • Oversee and manage the financials of the Account, including performance to targets including revenue, margin, and team utilization
  • Actively engage in financial discussions with senior management to maintain the financial health of the client (deep understanding of the financial status of the account is the goal)
  • Keep account and new business pipelines up-to-date and accurate, and provide summary report to leadership team when required
  • Coach project managers and producers to enhance margins, and optimize staff utilization
  • Make recommendations and decisions as appropriate to maintain the financial health of the account, which might include but not limited to pricing, rate card agreements, time estimates, resource requirements, supplier costs, pass-through costing etc.

Strategic Leadership

  • Ensure that the Agency delivers outstanding strategic work, with short-term customer benefits and long-term account growth potential
  • Lead and contribute to customer strategic discussions
  • Understand the business objectives and operations of each assigned client in order to recommend appropriate communication solutions
  • Build strong arguments and persuasive strategic proposals
  • Work with creative team to ensure that the agency delivers outstanding creative work
  • Develop case studies, seek testimonials and compile customer success stories for marketing and business development support

 Project Leadership

  • Ensure projects are scoped accurately by helping the delivery team think through the details and communicate them effectively to clients
  • Oversees the delivery team, empowering and enabling excellence in execution
  • Support company initiatives intended to optimize processes for improved margin, quality of service, and people development
  • Lead or participate collaboratively and effectively in multi-agency environments

Business Development

  • Build awareness of Audience’s brand and capabilities with client decision-makers; demonstrate our thought leadership in meetings and internal communication
  • Develop professional relationships with clients, demonstrating thought leadership, resourcefulness and creativity
  • To evaluate RFP and other opportunities to decide on what to pursue and what not to pursue
  • Contribute to new business development, identifying and developing prospect relationships through a combination of sales, marketing and communication techniques, including networking, referrals, participation in associations, events and councils, responding to RFP/RFQ opportunities.
  • Deliver effective, persuasive pitches and presentations with confidence
  • Resolve client issues pro-actively, seeking assistance when necessary to preserve business and organizational reputation

Experience, Attributes and Competencies

  • Strong experience in creating and designing communications and event programmes, including event themes, messaging, branding, content, out the box ideas and creative approaches to improving audience engagement and interaction
  • Excellent client management experiences, confident in building relationships and pitching new ideas to senior stakeholders
  • Ability to build new networks and identify new business opportunities, both with in current client organizations and also potential new clients
  • The ability to build/grow/develop the services Audience provides to its clients
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, able to come up with solutions and overcome obstacles and proven effectiveness in contract negotiations
  • Strong collaboration and leadership skills, with the ability to achieve results through influence and to inspire and motivate a team to work together
  • Self-motivation, high energy and passion for building the business, giving clients the best service and working on continuous improvement
  • A high level of self-awareness, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A proven ability to confidently make decisions and manage ambiguity
  • Flexible, versatile and copes well under pressure, with the ability to manage multiple priorities to tight deadlines
  • Curiosity, and the ability to generate ideas, challenge the status quo and explore innovation

Qualifications & Experience

  • Holds a professional qualification (Certified Meeting Professional, Certified Meeting Manager, Media trained, MBA)
  • Proven record of communications experience: 7+ years in at least one specific domain area
  • 7+ years successful event management experience, planning and running mid-large B2B corporate events – conferences, breakfast briefings, VIP dinners, exhibitions, roadshows
  • Excellent understanding of event marketing and audience engagement with C’Level, LOB and IT decision makers. Ideally using integrated comms involving digital and social media pre-event and on-site
  • Experience of working in a global agency is a plus
  • German B2 or higher
