Summary and Purpose of Position

The key purpose of the Senior Account Director is to manage the growth and development of existing clients in line with Audience’s Aspiration. The job holder is fully accountable for sales, services, campaigns, performance and profitability of all global accounts, with a focus on maintaining a high level of client and team satisfaction.

As well as growing existing clients, the job holder will be required to bring new client business into Audience.

Duties and Responsibilities
(include, but are not limited to):

Team Leadership

  • Directly manage the global account team which encompasses Account Managers, Account Executives, and Account Coordinators across the Audience network
  • Demonstrate leadership for all team members by exemplifying Audience’s values and sharing knowledge and expertise
  • Ensure that the Account Team consistently delivers superior work, is working collaboratively and is kept informed on the status of projects and accounts
  • Coach and mentor the Account Team and other functions as relevant to advance the team’s development and performance
  • Coach the delivery teams, helping them understand and speak the language of the client
  • Foster a culture of respect, continuous improvement, and innovation
  • Be open and receptive to feedback and encourage the Account Team to be the same
  • Maintain a high level of integrity and business ethics, and sound judgment in the performance of all duties

Client Leadership

  • Liaise directly with clients to understand their needs, provide consultative guidance, and help the delivery team provide outstanding solutions
  • Support the Account Team in leading and managing internal and external partners to deliver effective solutions to meet client objectives and maintain or exceed Audience quality standards
  • Lead key account proposals development and client presentations
  • Ensure the Account Team’s timely invoicing and project reconciliation in line with Audience’s process and client expectations
  • Be responsible for ensuring the Account Team generates accurate timesheets, sales forecasts and expense reports
  • Contribute to larger business goals such as market share, reputation, and development of Audience service offerings

Financial Management

  • Oversee and manage the financials of all accounts, including performance to targets including revenue, margin, and team utilization
  • Be responsible for reviewing all accounts with the leadership team on a regular basis and propose/agree actions required to maintain financial health of all accounts
  • Be responsible for ensuring the Account Team keep accounts and new business pipelinesup-to-date and accurate, and provide summary status report of accounts to the leadership team when required
  • Coach the Account Team and other players (project managers and producers) to enhance margins, and optimize staff utilization

Strategic Leadership

  • In conjunction with the leadership team, ensure that Audience delivers outstanding strategic work, with short-term customer benefits and long-term account growth potential
  • Lead and contribute to customer strategic discussions
  • Ensure the Account Team understand the business objectives and operations of each assigned client in order to recommend appropriate communication solutions
  • Build strong arguments and persuasive strategic proposals and coach the Account Team to be able to do the same
  • Work in partnership with creative team to ensure that the agency delivers outstanding creative work
  • Led the Account Team in developing case studies, seeking testimonials and compiling customer success stories for marketing and business development support

Project Leadership

  • Ensure all projects are scoped accurately by helping the delivery team think through the details and communicate them effectively to clients
  • Oversees the delivery team, empowering and enabling excellence in execution
  • Support company initiatives intended to optimize processes for improved margin and service quality

Business Development

  • Contribute to new business development, identifying and developing prospect relationships through a combination of sales, marketing and communication techniques, including networking, referrals, participation in associations, events and councils, responding to RFP/RFQ opportunities.
  • Evaluate RFP and other opportunities to decide on what to pursue and what not to pursue
  • Build awareness of Audience’s brand and capabilities with client decision-makers; demonstrate our thought leadership in meetings and internal communication
  • Deliver effective, persuasive pitches and presentations with confidence and coach the Account Team to do the same
  • Nurture partnership relationships with clients, demonstrating thought leadership, resourcefulness and creativity
  • Work with the Account Team to resolve client issues quickly and pro-actively, focusing on the need to preserve business and organizational reputation

Experience, Attributes and Competencies

  • Extensive successful event management experience, planning and running mid-large B2B corporate events – conferences, breakfast briefings, VIP dinners, exhibitions, roadshows
  • Experience of working in the pharmaceutical sector
  • Excellent understanding of event marketing and audience engagement with ‘C’ Level, LOB and IT decision makers. Ideally using integrated communications involving digital and social media pre-event and on-site
  • Strong experience in creating and designing communications and event programmes, including event themes, messaging, branding, content, out the box ideas and creative approaches to improving audience engagement and interaction
  • Solid understanding of the best and latest event technologies
  • Exemplary leadership skills and behaviours with the ability to build, motivate and develop teams, provide clear direction and honest and open, constructive feedback
  • Exceptional project direction and management skills, ability to manage multiple timelines, deadlines, actions in a collaborative, extremely fast-paced environment
  • Excellent client management experiences, confident in building relationships and pitching new ideas to senior stakeholders
  • Proven problem-solving skills, able to come up with creative solutions and overcome obstacles
  • Strong collaboration and leadership skills

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven record of communications experience: 10+ years in at least one specific domain area
  • 10+ years successful event management experience, planning and running mid-large B2B corporate events – conferences, breakfast briefings, VIP dinners, exhibitions, roadshows
  • Excellent understanding of event marketing and audience engagement with C’Level, LOB and IT decision makers. Ideally using integrated comms involving digital and social media pre-event and on-site
  • Experience of working in a global agency is a plus
  • German B2 or higher


The job holder will be based in Basel, Switzerland. As the role covered global accounts, national and international travel will be required.
